Cubs Centenary 2016

Cub centenary 2016.jpg

In 2016 we will commemorate one hundred years of Cub Scouts with local and national celebrations.

In 1916, the section we know as Cub Scouts was formed and within its first year 30,000 young people joined. Cub Scouts has grown to over 150,000 members who enjoy fun, challenge and adventure across the UK.

Cub Scouts Centenary Badge

In October, we kicked off the Centenary celebrations early with a competition for Cubs to design a badge that all members can wear throughout 2016. Out of over 7,000 entries, Amber, a Cub Scout from Nottingham (pictured above), created the winning design, which was chosen by Bear Grylls.

2015 – A year of adventure

A series of exciting adventure challenges will be released in 2015 to encourage Cub Scout Packs to take on more adventurous activities in their weekly programme. Scout Activity Centres will also be provided with resources to help them inspire people to visit and try out their more adventurous activities.

District and County teams (and country equivalents) will be encouraged to offer opportunities for local Cubs to experience the adventures Scouting can offer.

2016 – The Centenary

We will encourage Cubs to celebrate Our journey of adventure in 2016. Resources and highlights during 2016 will include:

  • The Cub Scouts Centenary Badge and related merchandise from Scout Shops.
  • A resource packed with activity ideas for leaders and Cub Scouts to use throughout the year.
  • Adventure camps that will encourage Cub Scouts to experience new adventurous activities.
  • Locally-organised ‘thank you’ events that recognise the millions of people who have made Cub Scouts a success over the past one hundred years. They will showcase and recognise the support of volunteers, parents and the community and demonstrate that Cub Scouts are at the heart of Scouting and the local community today.
  • The Promise Party: a national celebration that will include a Promise renewal, to be held on 16 December 2016 at 7.16pm (19:16) to commemorate the official registration date of the Cub Scout section.
