Programme Spark

Harvest Festival is celebrated on the Sunday closest to the Harvest Moon, usually around 23rd September. It is a tradition started by the Pagans originally, to be thankful for a good harvest of food that year.

During this Harvest time, we challenge your Section to think about the food they eat, where it comes from, what time of year it is harvested and how it is harvested. If appropriate, you could also think about those who are less fortunate and don't always have enough food, maybe taking a visit to a local food bank.

Activities could include:

  • Visiting a local orchard and helping to harvest apples.
  • Looking at the origin and food miles of your favourite meal.
  • Collecting donations for your local food bank.
  • Attending a local Harvest Festival service.
  • Anything else you can think of.
