Programme Spark

Young people enjoy pioneering and building structures at events. However to do this successfully and independently, they need to have basic knot tying skills first. This aim of this Spark is to equip and build upon your Section's existing knot tying skills, ready to put them to use in areas of your programme.

Each Section should revisit 2 existing knots they know and then learn a further 3. Suggestions include:

  • Reef knot
  • Clove hitch
  • Figure of 8
  • Double figure of 8
  • Bowline
  • Square lashing
  • Sheet bend
  • Sheep shank
  • Along with any others you wish.

You should vary the type of rope or string the young people tie these knots with to ensure they really know how to do them.
