Blacktoft Beacons Phoenix Explorer Scout Unit recently took a giant leap for Scout-kind after winning the chance to attend the exclusive #ExplorersOfSpace event — a celebration marking the launch of the brand-new Space Activity Badge for Explorer Scouts.
The event was packed with interactive STEM experiences, space-themed activities, and unforgettable moments that left our Explorers inspired, engaged, and maybe even considering a future among the stars! 🌠
One of the most memorable moments of the day was the investiture of two new members — and not just anywhere, but inside a replica module of the International Space Station (ISS). It was a truly symbolic way to welcome them into the Unit, setting the tone for an event that was as unique as it was exciting.
Throughout the day, Phoenix ESU explored the UK’s growing role in the space industry, learning about real-life applications of science and engineering from experts in the field. They were wowed by fascinating demonstrations and had the chance to get hands-on with various space-themed challenges.
A major highlight? Programming their own mini Mars Rovers! 🛰️
The Explorers took on the task of coding their rovers to navigate obstacles — testing their logic, creativity, and teamwork in the process.
As if the day couldn’t get more spectacular, the skies aligned to offer a rare treat — part of a solar eclipse! Thanks to a group of local amateur astronomers who were on hand with special viewing equipment, the Explorers were able to safely witness the celestial event, adding a real sense of wonder to an already awe-inspiring experience.
Events like this show just how powerful Scouting can be in connecting young people to the world — and universe — around them. From developing STEM skills to exploring future careers and making lifelong memories, this was a day our Explorers won’t soon forget.
Well done to Phoenix ESU for representing Humberside so brilliantly — we can’t wait to see where your journey takes you next! 🚀
