f you ever needed proof that Scouts will happily take on any challenge (as long as snacks are involved), this was it.
This week, 5th Beverley Wesley Scout Group headed to The Game Shack Beverley for an evening of tabletop mayhem, strategy, and very serious decision-making… like whether to buy Park Lane or start a feud over who moved the candlestick. ♟️🎲
It’s a perfectly apt activity for this time of year too — with Christmas just around the corner, there’s nothing quite like a good games night to practise those family-challenge survival skills. And yes, our Scouts absolutely answered the call.
Focus Keyword: Beverley Scouts game night
A night of classic battles and modern favourites
The brilliant thing about a night at The Game Shack is there’s genuinely something for everyone — whether you’re a calm, quiet chess master or someone who treats Monopoly like a contact sport.
Our Scouts enjoyed a fantastic mix of:
Classic contenders
Traditional favourites like Chess, Monopoly, and Cluedo — the games that have been causing “friendly disagreements” for generations.
Modern hits
New favourites that were brand new to many of our young people… and quickly turned into “just one more go” territory.
Exclusive finds
Some unique games created by the owners, available only at the venue — which is honestly the sort of thing that makes the place feel like a proper hidden gem.
Skills you don’t realise you’re learning (until you’re winning)
It might look like “just games” from the outside, but a night like this is packed with Scouts skills in disguise:
- Teamwork (especially when you’re trying to convince someone your plan is the best plan)
- Problem solving (how do we win without starting a diplomatic incident?)
- Communication (negotiation, persuasion, and the art of not giving away your next move)
- Resilience (because sometimes the dice hate you and you carry on anyway)
- Confidence (trying something new, learning quickly, having a go)
And, of course, the most important life skill of all: having fun together.
Santa shopping… or just perfecting the poker face?
Some Scouts were definitely scouting out last-minute ideas for Santa. Others were simply practising the world’s best poker face and pretending they totally weren’t about to lose. Either way, it was a cracking evening and a great example of Scouting being about far more than just the outdoors — it’s also about friendships, confidence, and doing something different.
A massive thank you to The Game Shack Beverley for having us and making the night such a brilliant experience.
Let the games begin… and may the best Scout win. 🎲✨
