There are some evenings that remind you what Scouting is really all about — community, kindness, and showing up for others. This week, 1st Cherry Burton Beavers, Cubs and Scouts had the absolute pleasure of singing Christmas carols at Claremont House for the second year running… and honestly, it was one of those nights that leaves everyone smiling on the way home. ✨🎄

Our young people loved it. Not just the singing (although there were some proper belters), but the feeling of sharing a bit of festive cheer with the residents and staff. There’s something special about seeing a room light up when familiar songs start — and you could feel the warmth in the building from the first note.

A second year — and hopefully the start of a tradition

Coming back for a second year made it even more meaningful. The group already knew what a lovely experience it was, and this time the confidence was sky-high. Beavers, Cubs and Scouts all got involved, and it was brilliant to watch older young people encouraging the younger ones and keeping everyone together.

And yes… there were a few giggles, a couple of “wait, what are the words again?” moments, and at least one enthusiastic singer who may or may not have been slightly ahead of the rest of the tune. Standard. 🎶

More than carols

Nights like this are a great example of what young people get from Scouting beyond the adventure and activities. It’s about:

  • building confidence by performing in front of others
  • learning to be part of a team
  • giving something back to the community
  • practising kindness and respect
  • understanding that small actions can make a big difference

It’s not every day you get to make someone’s evening brighter with a song — but our young people did exactly that.

A big thank you

A huge thank you to Claremont House for welcoming us so warmly, and to the residents and staff who joined in and made it such a lovely event. It means a lot to the group to be invited back, and we hope we’ve helped add a little extra sparkle to the season. ✨

From everyone at Cherry Burton Scout Group, we wish you — and all the residents and staff at Claremont House — a very Merry Christmas and a joyful, happy New Year. 🎅🌟
