There are moments in Scouting that remind us exactly why we do what we do. This week, we are beaming with pride as we celebrate a truly remarkable achievement within the Sutton Scouts family.

Laurie, a dedicated member of the Sutton group, has been officially awarded the County Lead Volunteer’s Commendation Award. This prestigious honor is reserved for those who demonstrate exceptional service and compassion that goes far above and beyond the call of duty.

A Heart for the Community

For those who haven't had the pleasure of meeting him, Laurie is known locally as a "lovely lad" with a massive heart. Outside of his Scouting commitments, he is a driving force behind a massive local operation run by school children in Hull.

Their mission? To ensure that no child in Hull wakes up without a gift on Christmas Day.

The scale of this project is staggering. From logistics to fundraising and distribution, Laurie and his team manage a "huge" operation that has even caught the attention of the BBC; you might have spotted them featured on Look North during the festive period.

A Rare Honor

The County Lead Volunteer’s Commendation is not a "participation trophy." It is a rare recognition of character and impact. Carl Eden, Scout Leader, put the magnitude of the award into perspective:

"These awards are not given out indiscriminately. This is the first I've seen during my time in Scouting since 2017. It is very well deserved."

Inspiring the Next Generation

Laurie’s selfless work embodies the very best of our Scouting values: integrity, care, and cooperation. He hasn't just helped provide gifts for children in need; he has shown his peers what it means to be a true leader in the community.

Bravo, Laurie! The whole of Humberside Scouts is incredibly proud of you.
