The Volunteering Development Team’s mission is simple but powerful: to ensure that every adult volunteer feels welcomed, supported, and empowered in their role. In line with Scouts HQ guidance, we work to make volunteering with the Scouts as accessible, rewarding and sustainable as possible. scouts.org.uk

We do this by:

Attracting and welcoming new volunteers — making sure enquiries are handled promptly and inclusively, and that people feel confident to join regardless of background or experience. scouts.org.uk

Providing ongoing support and development — helping volunteers access training, coaching, and opportunities to grow; organising shared learning and connecting volunteers across groups. 

Recognising and valuing contributions — celebrating the great work volunteers do, formally and informally, and ensuring their efforts are visible and appreciated.

Embedding Scouts’ volunteer culture and values — reinforcing inclusion, safety, diversity, and collaboration in everything we do.
