Pocklington Scout District is based around the Yorkshire Wolds, and consists of groups from Pocklington, Stamford Bridge, Market Weighton, Melbourne and Holme-on-Spalding-Moor. Through the work of our leaders we have developed thriving groups of Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. We also have a large number of Young Leaders across the district.
We hold District events such as St Georges Day Parade, Incident Hikes and District Camps and regularly take part in externally run events such as the Haltemprice Fells Marathon and the Wolds Challenge hiking competitions. We also offer the opportunity for Explorers to do their Duke of Edinburgh Award through scouting. Regular outdoor activities include archery, camping, canoeing, and hill-walking to name but a few.
Representatives from the District attended the 2011 World Jamboree in Sweden and previous World Jamborees in Chile and the UK. As well as this, Pocklington Scout Group offers a week-long international camp each year to Scouts and Explorers, travelling to places such as France, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and Eire, and Stamford Bridge Scout Troop have held an international camp in Holland.
Pocklington Scout District owns a green field campsite at Givendale, near Pocklington. The site is located in a large dale with a small stream that can be used for games and activities and is an ideal campsite for back to basics camping or as a base for getting out and about on the Wolds . Givendale is also available to Scout Groups from outside the district to book and use both for camping and for one day activities.
