2019 Jamboree Leader Announced

Lewis

Exciting times lay ahead as Humberside Scout County have selected the Unit Leader for the 24th World Scout Jamboree in North America. The Jamboree will see over 30,000 young people travel to West Virginia to experience the camp of a lifetime. Over 10 days the young people will take part in activities ranging from white water rafting to BMX biking.

Lewis Simpson has been selected to lead Humberside’s unit to the Jamboree by a panel of county staff, previous Jamboree unit leaders and young people who went to the 2015 Jamboree in Japan. The UK Contingent’s Vision for the 2019 World Scout Jamboree is to make it more ‘youth shaped’ and for the young people to have a positive long term impact on Scouting. Youth Shaped Scouting is all about young people making their own decisions to shape their own Scouting adventure.

Lewis is eager for the young people to have clear achievements and goals in place whilst partaking in the World Scout Jamboree experience and wants them to take control of their own experience. When asked, he said he was most excited about “seeing the faces of the young people when they arrive at the Jamboree venue and seeing young people experience some of the best adventurous activities offered in Scouting”.

Lewis also wants to engage with Humberside County and continue the message of this World Scout Jamboree long into the future.
