Introducing Humberside's first County Youth Commissioner....

Harvey Marritt - Humberside County Youth Commissioner

Harvey joined the County Team in November 2017 as our first ever County Youth Commissioner for Humberside. Harvey is very enthusiastic and will be an asset to the team, developing our youth shaped approach as we move forward.

Tell us what you think Harvey

"I’m really excited to start in my new and first ever adult role. I look forward to taking the knowledge I gained from working my way through the sections and implementing it into my latest adventure. I’ll be working alongside members of Scouting who I’ve known for years (lucky you) and some who I have only just met, but over the next few months I hope to meet as many new people in our County as possible through visiting your activities, events or even regular section meeting nights."

"I think the County team has done a great job so far, and has put down excellent groundwork for getting Youth Shaped Scouting really embedded into Programme. I hope I can continue to build and develop on some of the great work that has already been done."

"Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me with anything you feel I could get involved with that will benefit the young people and adults in our county."

About Harvey

Harvey started Scouting as a Beaver at the age of six, and went through the sections at Portobello (Methodist) Scout Group in Hull before joining Portobello Explorer Scout Unit at 14 years of age. During his time as a youth member in Scouting he also joined Humberside Scout Communication Team, playing a key role in the delivery and smooth running of events.

This year he took out his first adult role in Scouting with us in Humberside, and is now our first ever County Youth Commissioner, with the aim of helping to shape Scouting for young people in the County.

What will he be doing?

Harvey has three areas of development he’d like to work closely with, during his time in the role:

  • Young Leader Training;
  • Working with district teams to support them in appointing local Youth Commissioners;
  • Young people's approach to safeguarding and how Scouting works to keep them safe.
