Scouts Mechanics Badge Day

Get Hands-On. Get Stuck In. Get the Badge.

Our Scouts Mechanics Badge Day is all about practical skills, problem-solving and understanding how things work.

This focused badge day gives Scouts the chance to work through the Mechanics badge requirements in a hands-on, supportive environment led by experienced volunteers. It’s practical learning with real tools, real tasks and real outcomes.

What They’ll Be Doing

Throughout the day, Scouts will take part in activities designed to meet the criteria of the Mechanics badge, including:

– Learning about basic engine components and how they work
– Understanding routine vehicle checks
– Exploring simple maintenance tasks
– Looking at tool identification and safe use
– Learning how to spot common faults and issues

Activities will be age-appropriate, safety-led and structured to build both knowledge and confidence.

Why It Matters

The Mechanics badge isn’t just about vehicles. It helps Scouts to:

– Develop practical problem-solving skills
– Build confidence using tools correctly
– Understand responsibility and safety
– Gain life skills they can use beyond Scouting

By the end of the day, Scouts will have made strong progress towards completing their badge and gained a better understanding of the mechanics behind everyday transport.
