Join the Young Leader Support Team
Help shape the next generation of leaders in Scouting.
Young Leaders are Explorer Scouts aged 14–18 who volunteer alongside adult leaders in Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts. Through the Young Leader Scheme, they gain skills in leadership, teamwork, and planning while making a real difference to younger members.
To help them thrive, we’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our Young Leader Support Team.
What does the team do?
The Young Leader Support Team ensures Young Leaders get the most out of their volunteering. Key tasks for the Team include:
- Delivering all modules of the Young Leader Scheme twice every year over 4 training weekends covering Modules A–K. Modules B–J are then delivered a second time during evening sessions throughout the year.
- Providing advice and support to Young Leaders, Section Leaders, and District Teams between training sessions.
- Promoting the Young Leader Award throughout the year and supporting Young Leaders to complete their missions in the Sections they volunteer in.
- Completing a wide range of tasks on training weekends, including delivering training modules, cooking, updating badge records on OSM, supporting Young Leaders to complete their logbook missions, delivering outdoor activities, and more.
Team Leader Role
We’re looking for a passionate and organised volunteer to take on the Team Leader role for the Young Leader Support Team. As Team Leader, you’ll coordinate and inspire a team of volunteers supporting Explorer Scouts aged 14–18 as they develop their leadership skills.
Your responsibilities will include arranging planning meetings for training weekends, managing bookings for both training weekends and evening modules through OSM, ordering badges, buckles, logbooks, and orange cards, and booking venues as required for training delivery. You’ll also play a key role within the county Programme Team, helping to promote the Young Leader Scheme as a Top Award and ensuring opportunities are available for every Young Leader to achieve their goals.
This is a fantastic chance to lead a team, make a real difference to young people, and shape the delivery of Scouting’s leadership programme across the County.
Skills & attributes we’re looking for in all Team Members:
- Ability to work well in a team
- Confidence to deliver engaging training sessions to 14–18 year olds
- Passion for supporting young people and helping them develop as leaders
- Enthusiasm for Scouting and youth development
Why get involved?
This is a fantastic opportunity to:
- Support young people as they take their first steps into leadership
- Share your experience and help develop future volunteers
- Work with a passionate team who believe in youth-led Scouting
- Make a real difference to the experience of Young Leaders across the county
Whether you’re an experienced volunteer or simply passionate about developing young people, we’d love to hear from you.
