Top Awards Expedition Skills Day
Ready to take on your DofE/Chief Scout/Kings Scout expedition or just want to build up your skills? Whether you’re a beginner or preparing for your final expedition, this training is for you!
Ahead of taking part in an expedition, it is essentially that participants have the relevant skills to complete their expedition safely. Participants will need to have completed the below workshops:
Workshops Available
- Personal Equipment and rucksack packing (setting up rucksack, weight and packing)
- Meal planning (menu and what foods to take) demonstrated 3 different menus and how to plan and prep for Expedition.
- Stoves and group equipment (stoves Care, usage and safety) (group equipment what is needed and how to use it and check its condition)
- Route cards and online OS mapping
- Tents (size, condition, use and storage)
- Projects and Activities.
- Cooking on a Trangia
If you have a level 3 Emergency aid badge or above you don’t have to do the first aid section however its always good to keep your skills up to date
Expedition First aid – this half day session (subject to pre booking and meeting minimum required participants of 6)

Equipment
All equipment for the workshops will be supplied for the day by the Top Awards team.
You will need bring a pack up for lunch and something to drink and please bring the correct clothing for the weather conditions and any medication you will need for the day.
