Ready to take on your DofE/Chief Scout/Kings Scout expedition or just want to build up your skills? Whether you’re a beginner or preparing for your final expedition, this training is for you!

Ahead of taking part in an expedition, it is essentially that participants have the relevant skills to complete their expedition safely. Participants will need to have completed the below workshops:

  • Personal Equipment and rucksack packing (setting up rucksack and weight)
  • Meal planning and cooking (menu planning, how to prep and cook meals) demonstrated up to 3 different meals and how to package for Expedition.
  • Stoves and group equipment (stoves: care, usage and safety) (group equipment: what is needed, how to use it and check its condition)
  • Route cards and planning (to include projects) (compass work for Gold DofE)
  • Tents ( size, condition, use and storage)
  • Skill, physical, volunteering and how to record your evidence for your DofE (residential information and opportunities for Gold)

There will also be the opportunity to complete, Expedition First Aid, this will be a half-day session (subject to pre booking and meeting minimum required participants of 6).

All workshops will need to be completed and minimum safety standards reached to be able to undertake an Expedition. After completion of each workshop participants will be signed off by a Top Awards team member to show they have reached the requirements, or that they need to seek improvements in that area. Workshops can be taken as many times as needed until participants have reached full confidence and safety standards have been met.

Participants will need to complete the booking form (see link below) to select which workshops they would like to attend on the day. Each workshop will run once in the morning and once in the afternoon, First Aid will however only take place once and be subject to minimum required number of participants for it to take place.
