While most people were putting their feet up this week, our Beverley and Hornsea Explorers were busy putting theirs to the pavement (and the mud!). They’ve officially kicked off an incredible two-day, 43km expedition as they work toward the prestigious Platinum Chief Scout’s Top Award.
More Than Just a Long Walk
An expedition isn’t just about the distance; it’s a masterclass in independence. Over the course of their journey, these Explorers are proving they have the “Skills for Life” we talk so much about here in Humberside. We’re talking:
- Master Navigation: No SatNav here! Just maps, compasses, and sharp minds.
- Al Fresco Fine Dining: Mastering the art of the lightweight stove to keep the team fueled.
- Resilience: Pushing through the 30km mark when the legs start to ache but the team spirit is still high.
Why We Do It
It’s moments like these where the real magic of Scouting happens. Beyond the badges, these young people are building the confidence and resilience that will stay with them long after the hiking boots are tucked away. They are supporting each other, solving problems on the fly, and making memories that usually involve a fair bit of laughter (and maybe the occasional wrong turn—all part of the fun!).
We are incredibly proud of the determination shown by the Beverley and Hornsea units. Good luck, team—keep those spirits high and those maps the right way up!
