Small Actions, Big Difference

Beavers at 1st New Waltham have been getting hands-on with conservation as they took on an important community project: renovating their bug hotel.

The session gave young people the chance to learn more about wildlife habitats, what different creatures need to survive, and how looking after small spaces can make a real difference to the natural world around us.

Rolling Up Their Sleeves

After inspecting the existing bug hotel, the Beavers got straight to work collecting natural materials including:

  • Twigs
  • Dry grass
  • Sticks
  • Bricks
  • Logs

They also helped create insect-friendly spaces by drilling holes into logs, building places where bugs and other small creatures can shelter safely.

Learning Through Doing

This was a great example of Scouts in action: getting muddy, giving back, learning new skills and helping young people understand the positive role they can play in their local community.

Conservation activities like this help young people connect with nature while building confidence, teamwork and practical skills along the way.

Proudly Supporting Local Wildlife

A big well done to the Beavers at 1st New Waltham for putting their energy into a project that supports local wildlife and helps make their meeting place a better home for nature.
