From Gilwell Park to Japan, and even a debate about pineapple on pizza with Italian Scouts, Humberside Scouts have been connecting with people across the globe as part of Jamboree on the Air and Jamboree on the Internet (JOTA-JOTI) 2026!

This weekend, young people from across Humberside Scouts have been taking part in the world's largest digital and radio Scouting event, discovering how technology and communication can bring Scouts together, no matter how far apart they are.

Making Connections Across the World

Saturday 17 October was filled with exciting conversations, new experiences and plenty of laughter as young people explored the world of radio communications.

Using radio equipment, participants had the opportunity to make contact over long distances, discovering how signals can travel across countries and continents.

Among the day's highlights were conversations with Scouts at Gilwell Park, the home of Scouting in the UK, and connections reaching as far away as Japan!

There was even an international discussion with Italian Scouts about one of life's most controversial questions: does pineapple belong on pizza?

It just goes to show that, wherever you are in the world, Scouting brings people together!

Youth-Led Activities and Hands-On Learning

A key part of the weekend was giving young people the opportunity to take the lead.

Through youth-led activities, participants could get hands-on with radio technology, develop their communication skills and experience the excitement of reaching people hundreds or even thousands of miles away.

From understanding how radio signals work to making those all-important long-distance contacts, the event demonstrated that communication is about much more than simply picking up a phone.

JOTA-JOTI also offers young people a fantastic opportunity to develop confidence, teamwork, technical knowledge and an appreciation of the worldwide Scouting community.

Scouting Without Borders

JOTA-JOTI is an annual international Scouting event that brings together young people from around the world through amateur radio and the internet.

Whether chatting with another Scout just down the road or making contact with someone on the other side of the planet, every conversation is an opportunity to learn about different cultures, share experiences and make new friends.

For Humberside Scouts, the weekend was another brilliant example of how Scouting combines traditional adventure with modern technology.

A Huge Thank You!

A massive thank you to everyone who helped organise, support and deliver the activities, particularly the volunteers who shared their knowledge and enthusiasm for radio communications.

Most importantly, thank you to all the young people who got involved, asked questions, took the lead and helped make the weekend such a fantastic experience.

From Humberside to the rest of the world – that's what international Scouting is all about!
