It was the turn of our smallest adventurers to take on a camp — and St Martin’s Squirrels were absolutely incredible from start to finish. 🐿️🐿️

Even a day of truly horrible weather on Saturday couldn’t stop them. While the rest of us were questioning our life choices, the Squirrels were out there exploring, laughing, and getting properly muddy (as it should be). If you ever needed proof that you don’t have to be big to be brave, this weekend delivered.

Muddy adventures (despite the weather)

Saturday threw everything at them — wind, rain, and general “why did we plan this again?” vibes — but the young people didn’t let it dampen their spirits. They kept going, explored their surroundings, and turned a soggy day into a proper adventure.

And let’s be honest: if you come home from camp clean, did you even go? 😉

Movie night and sleepover

After a full day of exploring, it was time for the best kind of evening: movie night and a sleepover. There’s something special about that first camp sleepover — the excitement, the giggles, and the proud moment when everyone manages it.

For many of these young people, it’s a huge step. New place, new routine, lots of independence — and they smashed it.

Finishing strong on County Badge Day

To top off the weekend, the Squirrels finished at County Badge Day, where they earned their Go Wild badges. What a way to end the adventure — muddy memories, new confidence, and a badge to prove it.

Proper proud moments

A massive well done to every young person who took part. St Martin’s Squirrels have genuinely done us proud this weekend — and it’s moments like this that show why Scouting is so powerful: young people trying new things, building confidence, and having a laugh while they do it.

Huge thanks as well to the leaders and helpers who made it happen (and who probably deserve a hot drink the size of a bucket after that weather). ☕🌧️
