We’re really excited to share something special across Humberside Scouts — a new way for anyone to help us say thank you to the brilliant volunteers who make Scouting happen every single week. 🌟
Our volunteers give their time, energy and passion to create opportunities for young people across the county — and while we’ll never be able to repay that in full, we can make sure they feel valued, seen and appreciated.
That’s why we’ve launched a simple new way to recognise volunteers… and the very first batch of postcards is already on its way. ✉️
What are the postcards?
They’re small, simple, and genuinely meaningful: a personalised “thank you” that someone can keep, stick on the fridge, or quietly look at after a tough week and think, “Ah… it does matter.”
Because it does.
How it works
Anyone can put someone forward for recognition — young people, parents, carers, or fellow volunteers. If someone has made a difference to you or your child, or you’ve seen them going above and beyond, you can send in a nomination.
Your nomination is received by our County Volunteering Development Team, who will review it and decide the best way to pass on that thank you in a way that feels personal and meaningful.
A quick note (so expectations are clear)
Sending in a nomination doesn’t automatically guarantee that something will be sent out every time. The team checks each nomination to make sure it’s appropriate, and then chooses the most fitting way to celebrate that volunteer.
Sometimes that might mean:
- sending a postcard directly
- recognising them in another suitable way
- sharing your message with the volunteer’s local team so the thanks can be given closer to home
Either way, your message won’t disappear into a black hole — it will be read, and it will be used to help recognise volunteers properly.
Why this matters
Saying thank you isn’t “just a nice thing to do.” It actively builds a better culture.
When volunteers feel appreciated, they’re more likely to:
- feel supported and motivated
- stay involved for longer
- encourage others to join
- feel proud of the difference they’re making
A quick nomination could genuinely brighten someone’s week — and sometimes that’s exactly what someone needs to keep going.
Make your nomination
If there’s a volunteer who deserves a bit of recognition (spoiler: there probably is), you can find out more and submit a nomination here:

Thank you for helping us celebrate the people who make Humberside Scouts what it is. 💜
