Young Spokespeople (YSP): Speaking up and Standing up for Scouting!

8am Saturday 23rd -
3pm Sunday 24th, November 2019

Do you know an Explorer Scout who is keen to promote the Movement and learn more about the media?

Do you know an Explorer Scout who is keen to promote the Movement and learn more about the media? The Scouts Speak Up (SSU) course trains 14-18 year olds to be confident Young Spokespeople (YSP). They will find out how to talk positively to journalists and get their message across in front of the camera.

By speaking coherently and eloquently, Explorer Scouts encourage other young people to join, more adults to volunteer, and communities and benefactors to support the skills for life that Scouting undertakes. Why? Young people are Scouting; only they can convey the fun, challenge and life-changing adventure that Scouting offers, as they’re experiencing it first-hand.

Scouts Speak Up (SSU)

·       Engage in and practice print, radio and TV interviews;

·       Learn about advocacy – how to plan and carry out campaigns;

·       Develop in communication, presentations skills and self-confidence.

This free event for Explorer Scouts (aged 14-18) is limited to 30 spaces on a first come, first served basis.  If you have any questions, or to book a place, please e-mail: scoutsspeakup@gmail.com.

At the bottom of this page, you will find the weekend’s permission and health form, kit list and pre-course homework. The event timings will be e-mailed to those Explorer Scouts who successfully secure a place.

What's more? You'll earn the Media Relations and Marketing Activity Badge.
