Activity Service Team
We are looking for adult volunteers (18+) to join our Activity Service Team for the event.
They will support the programme by staffing a variety of activities throughout the weekend, from crafts to adventurous activities and everything in between!
The perfect volunteers for this team, would be adults who are not attending with a Section or Group.
We are particularly looking for volunteers who hold the following permits/qualifications:
- Kayaking
- Dinghy Sailing
- Stand Up Paddle Boarding
- NSRA Qualification
- Climbing and/or abseiling
- Archery
If you are interested in volunteering in the Activity Service Team, please register for the Staff Team via this link: bookings.humbersidescouts.org.uk/scoutsinspace/register
FAQs
How much does it cost for Leaders attending?
Leaders are free of charge.
Why do we need to pay a deposit?
Like with all big events, there is a lot of advanced planning. To secure the best activities, we need to know how many people are coming and therefore how much money we have to spend.
What if my numbers drop after paying the deposits?
As stated above, all payments, including deposits, are non-refundable. We want to ensure we can provide the best activities and these are booked on the numbers provided.
Can parent helpers attend to help the Leaders?
Yes, in one of the three following ways:
Attendance Option |
Requirements |
---|---|
DAY VISITOR OPTION 1 An adult that is coming to support for the day only and does not have a Scout DBS |
|
DAY VISITOR OPTION 2 An adult that is coming to support for the day only and does have a Scout DBS |
|
ADULT STAYING OVERNIGHT WHO HAS NOT COMPLETED ANY SCOUT TRAINING An adult that is coming to support overnight, are not a leader, but does have a Scout DBS |
|
An adult coming to cook or help cater for your Section must have a DBS as they are likely to be left unsupervised on your Sub Camp at some point during the weekend.
Where will the Squirrels and Beavers sleep?
In tents, with the rest of their Scout Group's Sections.
How long can Squirrels stay?
Squirrels can either come for a day visit on Sunday, or come on Saturday and stay for one night, leaving on Sunday.
What will the Young Leaders who are doing 50:50 do at the Event?
Young Leaders will be given a rota of when they are required to be on activity bases and when they are free to take part in the activities. They will camp with their Explorer Unit or the Group/Section they are a Young Leader at. If their Group, Section or Explorer Unit is not attending, please get in touch with us.
No one in our Scout Group has a Nights Away Permit. Can we still attend?
Yes, please include this on your Expression of Interest form and we will be in touch to discuss this with you.
When can we set up our camping area?
- Thursday between 17:30 - 21:00
- Friday from 09:00
- Arrivals and Departures for those arriving after 17:00 will be subject to the Traffic Management Plan
When can parents / carers and young people arrive?
Groups will need to agree drop and collection times locally to ensure that leaders arrive before young people, however those arriving after 17:00 on Friday will be subject to the Traffic Management Plan and therefore it is important that you have shared this with parents / carers as well as your leadership team.
Will adults receive a necker?
Yes, all adults will receive a necker to match their subcamp and will be required to wear this around site, during the camp.
Will adults receive a badge?
Yes, if it is pre-ordered and paid for before the Event. Details of how to buy these will be shared closer to the Event.
Can we cook on a fire in our subcamps?
No. Fire pits and campfires of any kind are not allowed on subcamps. All cooking must be on gas (or other suitably fueled) stoves.
Will there be any offsite activities this year?
For the first time, we are planning to have offsite water activities at a County Camp!
These will be exclusively for Scouts and Explorers and transport to and from the water will be provided. Details of how this will operate for those young people who wish to take part, will be shared closer to the camp.
With so many people on site, how will we know who is who?
All young people and adults will be wearing wristbands and their sub camp necker throughout the event. The wristbands will have a unique barcode on that will be used to sign people on and off site and to check permissions for activities where required. These will be different colours for young people and adults, to help distinguish between the two.
Will Leaders be asked to help with running activities?
To ensure we have plenty of activities running over the weekend, as usual, we will be requiring Leaders to help facilitate these activities. Sub Camp Leaders will be helping to coordinate the volunteers from this from each Sub Camp for this over the weekend to make this fair and equitable depending on Section sizes, age ranges and numbers of Leaders.
How do I complete my NAN form for this event?
NAN Forms need to be completed by each Section/Group as usual. Leaders will need to risk assess all the areas of the camp that they are responsible for - travel, camping, cooking, overnight, pitching and striking camping areas, free time, etc.
All activities provided by the camp, will have risk assessments completed by the organising team as we are responsible for these.
