Compass Update

Compass_large-Color.jpg

Compass - the new online Membership System is coming to your district and group in the very near future!

What is it?

Compass is a powerful set of online tools for members to manage their Scouting administrative activities in one place. It can share access to that information with relevant Scouting colleagues and offer a high level of data security. The system streamlines many tasks currently performed to manage Scouting so members spend less time on administration.

How will it help?

Here are 10 ways that Compass will make your life easier:

  • Managing personal information on youth and adult records
  • Managing waiting lists
  • One record per young person as they move up through Scouting
  • Tracking youth badges
  • Managing programme planning
  • Managing activity and nights away permits
  • Inviting and managing attendance at local events
  • Creating and maintaining contact lists of specific volunteers/parents or young people for communication
  • Directly email or text members/parents/young people via Compass (no need to download data and use your own email/mobile account)
  • More effective and quicker systems for updating training and development records

When will everyone have access to it?

Compass went live in September 2014. Roles are currently being invited to register in a phased process. If you need to know information held on the membership database, Group Scout Leaders and members of the District Team should now have access to this information.

Uploading Compass Data

All groups will be required to upload their data by December 2014 in order that the 2015 Census can be taken from Compass. Groups will have to keep the records up to date, ensuring that new members are added and old members removed from the database in a timely manner. To enable to data to be added in the first instance, a spreadsheet will be distributed (via District Commissioners) which will enable a bulk upload of information, saving the time it would take for you to input all of the data.

If you have any questions or queries, please contact your District Commissioner or Compass Champion in the first instance.
