New Building Named by Cub Scout and Chief Executive

Nyeri Centre Opening with Matt Hyde

The new building at Raywell (as it has been known since it's arrival some time ago!) has finally been given a name. Following a competition open to all young people in the County, it was Connor, a Cub Scout from Hessle whose name for the building was chosen from the entries received, with the name, The Nyeri Centre. The building was officially named and opened by both Connor and Chief Executive of The Scout Association, Matt Hyde at the County AGM.

Suggestions for the name proved very varied with some quite basic and some more adventurous names. Connor came up with the name after researching on Google about the founder of Scouting, Baden Powell. Nyeri is the final resting place of Baden Powell.

As the winning group of the competition, Hessle Scout Group, from Blacktoft Beacon District will have free use of the building for a weekend.

The runners up in the competition, St Ninians and St Andrews Scout Group from Hull, will also receive a prize for their entries into the competition that came from every young person in the group, a couple of which were very close contenders.

The building which was donated by BP has undergone major refurbishment since it arrived, with the addition of bedrooms, a kitchen and additional toilet facilities. All that remains to be added are the shower facilities - and they're on the way as work on these begins next week.

The amount of work that has been done to the building is a credit to our volunteers and sponsors. There have been many donations of time, materials and equipment to make the building what it is today, for which the County Team and Executive Committee are most grateful.

The Nyeri Centre is available for hire and is already proving very popular with Schools, Scout groups and other organisations making bookings well into the future.

Anyone interested in making a booking enquiry, should contact the County Office to check availability in the first instance.
