Bridlington Cubs Get Stamp Duty

The local 1st Bridlington Cubs have been extra busy helping the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) by collecting a massive 19kg of used stamps; sorting them and sending them on to the RNIB who will use them to raise funds to support blind and partially sighted people.

9kg of these stamps were donated by Mrs. Joan Towse, wife of the late Rotarian Ken Towse.

The remaining 10kg came from a number of collection boxes that are located around Bridlington most notably in the Priory and Priory Rooms where the local community have been extremely supportive.

In sorting the stamps, the Cubs got to learn about postage systems across the world.

Cub scout Thomas Dixon, 11, said: “sorting them out into different groups and looking at all the different ones was fun.”

Cub scout Tommy McDonald, 9, said: “it was fun because there were lots of different stamps and you could see what they were. I learnt what different stamps were.”

Leading the 1st Bridlington Cubs, Michael Lupton said: “we have been collecting used stamps for three years. We are very grateful to Mrs. Joan Towse as well as Kirkgate House and all the parents for their help to send 19kg this year. Next year we hope to send 20kg. If you collect used stamps and want to pass them on to the RNIB please help this great cause.”

Terri Bush, RNIB volunteer coordinator said: the 1st Bridlington Cubs have been helping us for a long time now and have helped us raise many thousands over the years. They are a credit to Lord Robert Baden-Powell. We rely on groups such as the Scout Association to collect any amount of stamps from anywhere around the world at any time of the year.”
