Hull Monopoly Run

Hull Monopoly Run

On Saturday Scouts and Explorer Scouts from across the County joined the Monopoly Run taking place in Hull.  The event was jointly organised by members of the County Team and member from the City of Hull District Team.

Teams were dropped off at the interchange where they collected their Monopoly Board and instructions for the day.  The board had been adapted to suit the city and the teams had to visit various locations throughout the city centre.  Some of the locations had questions which they needed to answer, others had challenges.  The event was supported by a number of organisations who helped with the challenges, equipment and access to buildings.  These included:

  • All of the Hull Museums, they supported the event and arranged challenges for the young peiople
  • Holy Trinity Church, they opened up the tower and allowed the young people to climb to the top
  • Village Gym, supplied rowing machines for another challenge at Beverley Gate
  • HETA, provided an engineering challenge in St Stephens
  • Tesco (St Stephens), provided lunch and refreshments for all of the participants
  • Sainsburys, also provided a great supply of water and water bottles for all of the participants

Obviously, whilst making their way around, they had to avoid being caught and sent to jail - this was determined by the throw of two dice - a double, or a not so lucky seven would land you in jail - some teams seemed to end up there more than others... another team were caught out by two PCSOs who had been supplied with some dice whilst in the city centre - the team were quite surprised to be asked to throw the dice by the Police!

As the day was also the 100th celebration of the Lord Mayor in Hull and the Lord Mayors Carnival, all of the teams were named after a Lord Mayor of Hull.

During the day, another of the challenges was to get a photo of a poster promoting Scouting in the best location.  One team even managed to get their picture with a newly wed bride and groom!
