Programme Spark

Mark out the maze on the floor. The squares should roughly be 50x50-100x100 cm. Split the Young People into pairs. Give each pair a copy of the map (suggestion to download below).

Give the pairs 15-20 mins to make a set of instructions (Algorithms) to make their way round the maze.

Example Instructions:
Forward 1 step
Turn left 90 degrees

After the allotted time, one young person needs to guide the other round the maze, using the Algorithms they created. The person in the maze needs to be blindfolded with their necker.

Beavers and Cubs may need assistance from a Leader or Young Leader to write down the instructions.

Scouts and Explorers could add more complicated elements to their algorithms such as loops and if statements.

You could also make the maze bigger to extend this activity, even taking it outside.
